Well, sorry to miss the afternoon post today. I was once again tied up with classes and trying to get things sorted out.
The big news for today is that Mike had his ICP catheter removed! He also got a shave! He is clean cut and looking good. Kristy tells us that Mike wasn't too happy to have them shaving his face. He kept flapping his arm up at them trying to shoo it away. Of course, they kept his arm under control since they were using a razor!
He continues to move every so often, a bit more today than yesterday. By the time I got there this evening though he was slowing down. We think he is very tired from the eventful day.
One thing I did notice when I first got there was that Michael blinked twice while I was watching him. His eyes are sometimes open ever-so-slightly (just slits). He flinched with both arms, then I saw the eye muscles contract, both eyes, twice in a row. His eyelids most definitely blinked from their partially open position. It was very rewarding to watch. I know that in time they will peep open more. I am looking forward to that day when I can see his beautiful golden brown eyes again. Mike has the most unique color eyes and has always gotten so many compliments on them. Both he and I have a yellow ring around our pupils, but my eyes are green and Mike's are gold. He got the dark eyes from my dad (brown), and the light eyes from my mom (greenish blue), which resulted in the coolest combination of them both (gold). You can't really tell from the picture above.
Clarification: I am not one to report false information. I looked this up later after posting the stuff about eyes. Eye color inheritance is much more complicated than this as it is a polygenic trait.
The first thing we will notice eye-wise is the peepers suddenly being open in a blank stare. In time, his eyes will begin to follow nurses and guests around the room. This is how they say it goes I guess for people coming out of comas or out of unconsciousness.
In addition, Kristy tells us Mike will probably start to thrash about more, in which case they will have to tether him down if necessary.
This morning his trauma doctor and a couple neurologists came in to check him out. It is still too early to have conclusions, but they did look him over.
He will eventually get his trache. This will come sooner than later. His pancreas is still inflamed, but that is just a wait and it will heal game. It made him just a bit jaundice, but you can hardly tell because he is so tan from his Myrtle Beach trip a few weeks ago and working for the Medina County Highway Dept.!
Well, I have some things to take care of before tomorrow. And by the way an inside source tells us gas is going up a dollar a gallon tomorrow, so make a late night run! Talk to you later.
