DAY 4 AT EDWIN SHAW
MIKE TOOK HIS FIRST STEPS TODAY!! IN FACT, HE WALKED 12 FEET ON HIS OWN USING ONLY THE PARALLEL BARS!
Mike also wrote something! He wrote that he needed to call Mom, and kept mouthing to the therapist to "call his Mom."
So the therapist called my mom.
Mike also sat on the toilet for the first time today.
All this action caused him to be too tired for speech therapy. So he was sleeping when we got there. I guess walking especially TIRED HIM OUT.
I left early. I am going to Highland's homecoming football game tonight with a friend. This will be my first time returning to my alma mater for a football game I believe since graduation. Geez.
UPDATE:
Since I got home, Mom and Dad gave me an update. Mike woke up later. They gave him the card from Sorts & Jane Ellen. Just then, Aunt Debbie & Uncle Shirley walked in. Mike smiled and looked at them, but continued to open his card! He opened it perfectly, like you or I would. I even scanned it in and put it in the photo album for you all to see. He did a good job multi-tasking. He read it too. Whether or not he did read it (we think he did), he looked it over. They said, "It's from Sorts & Jane Ellen," and he nodded.
Later, he mouthed, "piece of paper, piece of paper." Mom got him a blank sheet. He wrote two phrases, not sure what, but both contained the word "HOME". Unfortunately, he cannot go home yet. BUT, at this rate, we will hopefully get him back for the holidays! I scanned in the writing he wrote earlier for you guys to see as well. It is also in the photo album.
He continued to mouth things all night too I guess. They even got him up in his wheel chair when he got restless, and he used the real bathroom again tonight after mouthing to the nurse and my mom to get their attention.
These are awesome things!! We are so excited! It seems, for the first time since August 20th, that we are able to smile a little! I am so glad we are able to share this miracle with all of you, and that you have been helping in it!
