DAY 21 AT EDWIN SHAW
I just read the post by Mike's physical therapist. That is nice. I am so glad everyone is putting their thoughts down for Mike to read sometime. Now he is able to remember people more, but way back, he'll have no recollection.
Mike was doing good tonight. I did not go down (felt not up to par today), but Mom and Dad said Mike had plenty of visitors today. Kurt stopped by to eat lunch with him today. Mike doesn't particularly care for eating lunch with all the old people on the floor. He's never been the world's greatest socialite, let alone talking to folks who make up stories and don't know who they are. Mike is so lucky. While he has language problems, the part of his brain that allows him to empathize and sense feelings in other, and that controls his personality, wasn't as affected by his injury. He is seemingly normal, except for a few glitches here and there.
I guess Mike got in trouble last night for walking to the toilet by himself. He pushed the call button, but couldn't hold it. Edwin Shaw is unfortunately understaffed at night. We don't blame him, but it is dangerous because he is still unsteady walking. It depresses him, his walking issues. He wants so badly to be like he was before.
I guess Mom and Dad got to talk to Mike's doc today, and they are indeed having some discussions to decide if they will put Mike on Didronel or not for his HO in his left knee. They must all agree that it is the best course of action for him and that it is safe with all the other medications he is on.
Some good news on that subject is that through more intense therapy Mike is limbering up a bit in the knee. Mike his therapist continues to work it, and Mike Gamauf knows he must continuously work it (boy that is confusing having two Mike's!).
Other than that, I forgot to mention what my cat did to me the other night. Saturday night I went home for the night to Wadsworth. I felt terrible about leaving Louie home alone here in Akron until Sunday night. I even contemplated making the trek back to Akron Saturday late so she wouldn't be lonely. But I didn't.
WELL, when I got home Sunday night, that little b!@ch left a present for me right in the middle of my sandal! Okay, this is a perfect example of what I'm dealing with here! My cat is crazy. She gets even worse when she gets ahold of the catnip we have over here, which I should not give her catnip. But I can't help but spoil her.
Sunday when I walked into Mike's room, he looked at me and said, "Well where's Louie?" and smirked. I had mentioned I'd try to bring her Sunday, but ended up not. So I told him I'd bring her sometime this week maybe. Mike loves her too. We all do, but she can be such a stinker of a cat. I know there's people who read this and say, "I'd a shot that there cat by now!" But she's so old, I know her better than some people in my life! Yikes!
