DAY 28 AT EDWIN SHAW
Tonight was quiet at Edwin Shaw. Kurt stopped by for lunch this afternoon I guess, and brought Mike Friendly's ice cream, but tonight it was just Mom, Dad, and me.
Mike had his hearing tested today. She thinks he indeed has some loss in his right ear. His left ear is normal. However, it is unknown at this point if the hearing loss is from the brain injury or if it is from a plug of stuff in there. She wants Mike to have an appointment with the ear/nose/throat doctor after he gets out. The doctor will remove any blood from Mike's ear from the injury. After that, he will be retested and we will know the full extent of the injury and possible treatment. I am still optimistic that it is dried blood in there causing the hearing loss.
Mike told us that he had glanced at the book I had put in his room (a three-ring binder with pictures and stuff and some of the posts printed out). I continued to read the ones that were in there (last of September's and beginning of October's). Mike started crying after I read about the tenth one. It just hit him like a brick how many people were thinking about him through this. I stopped after that, but we told him that Grandpa has everything printed out and we'll bring it in for him to start reading up on.
I wore my costume in when I went to see Mike tonight. He liked it, but was more impressed with my sword. He said you could really cut someone with it. He got some candy and cookies for the holiday today. I guess many of the physical therapists were dressed up, and he said Mike was dressed like a baseball player. He showed him his jester hat, but Mike didn't make him wear it during therapy. Other than that, Mike seemed really sleepy tonight. He didn't seem too down about the hearing. He seems to take it as it comes.
I drug myself to self-defense class tonight. Turns out, I didn't miss too much last week, and picked up the new moves easily. At the end he had us stand at the back of the gym, and then selected various people to perform the Tolkien move in front of the class (it is our final exam--think David Carradine in Kung Fu the Legend Continues). Anyways, they did this last week and I wasn't here. So I didn't know what was going on. I was chatting with the girl next to me (the whole class was chatting), and she actually had the nerve to shoosh me! Well, if you know me, you know that I don't take too kindly to someone shooshing me. I said, "What, are you afraid of him? He likes me." Which our instructor does like me, and he is not scary or intimidating. I don't think she likes me anymore. None-the-less, I am looking forward to my final exam when I do just as well or better than that shoosher. She kind of reminded me of the one chick in my cooking class that likes to boss me around. Haha, big mistake. She criticized me one time on how I was washing the dishes and I looked at her blankly, tossed the dish down, and said, "here you do it," and walked away with a smile. Now, if it were rocket science, I would understand, but I don't need to be told how to reinvent the wheel! I mean, I can do calculus and differential equations, for sure I can wash a dish WOMAN! You know and chicks like that all over the world have boyfriends! How is that possible!?
