Okay, here's the latest.
Mike's MRI results are back. He has a teeny tear in his MCL in his left knee. It is also confirmed that he has some calcification going on in there, HO as thought. He is supposed to keep up the physical therapy and continue with improving the range of motion of his left knee.
His ear appointment resulted in no change in his hearing. The doctor removed a good deal of plugs, but it did not help the hearing in the right ear. The doctor believes that in the trauma the nerve going to that ear got severed. It is basically a dead ear. Mike can hear vibrations. He can't make out words. He says it is like having a plug in it--it is just muffled feeling. There are a couple surgical options the doctor says, but their results are not really that good. He therefore suggests waiting since Mike can adapt with the left ear. In the future, they may come out with better procedures for this type of injury. We were all bummed at first, but overall we are okay with it and just thankful that his hearing in the left ear is great.
His hearing has come back a tiny bit in each ear since he was tested at Edwin Shaw, and the doc doesn't think it is just from removing the plugs. Mike is supposed to come back in three months to be retested.
Last night was Grandma Hoyt's birthday and everyone was over here visiting and we had cake/ice cream. George and Kurt were over here also. It was an enjoyable evening and I know Grandma is happy to have Mike home by here birthday. For awhile in the beginning, we weren't sure if he'd be home by now.
Other than that, I am headed up to Auto Zone to get some oil and a filter and some other stuff to get ready to winterize my car. I am really bummed that I will have to say goodbye to my car for the season, but I know it is for the best to keep her away from salt. I just turned over 30k a couple days ago. Anyways, I'll talk to you later but just wanted to give the update on Mike's ear and his knee.
