Today was an eventful day.
Mike had his followup appointment with his neurosurgeon who did his surgery, Dr. Georges Markarian.

This directory has a photo, since we are all visual people.
Anyways, we all went, seeing how we all three wanted to see the look on Dr. Markarian's face when he saw Mike. Dr. M. was the man who told us, "he might not survive this..." as he returned to the waiting room after surgery.
Well, his first words were, "Oh my God! OH MY GOD!!" And then he went over, threw his arms in the air and then slapped them gently down on both Mike's knees and proclaimed, "I thought you were gonna die!" and he was all smiles while Mike and us just laughed. He said it was amazing to see him--no wheel chair or anything. We really got a kick out of the happier side of the surgeon, seeing how the last time we talked to him everything was terribly grim.
He asked Mike and us how everything was going in terms of the mental and physical. We told him that Mike is nearly all the same mentally and has a few physical things as a result. We told him Mike had no hearing in his right ear. He looked at him seriously but then smiled and said, "but you know, that's better than dead." He then apologized for the bluntness and went on to tell us that in all his experience with cases like Mike, he is BY FAR the biggest success story.
He said, "Wow, you've made a believer out of me," and then shook his hand for about the third time.
Also, we told him about Mike's pain in his right knee (not the HO in the left knee), and he seems to think that the blood clot Mike had might be causing it. He said it will go away, but will take forever.
Mike will get a CT scan in the beginning of January. Dr. Markarian will review it and put the bone back in place soon-after. He could have it done before Christmas, but we all figured why put Mike down for the holiday. He will be in the hospital a couple days, and it is a week or two for the wound to recover. Luckily they won't have to shave his whole head, just where the sutures will be, so Mike's hair will still look pretty normal. It is just so hard to believe all this is happening so fast. I never thought this would be over, but here we are about a month away from the bone being put back in.
And so, today was especially cool for us. Mike was all grins. He laughs sheepishly when we tell him in a high-pitched voice, "You're our little miracle boy."
We went to Friendly's today for lunch. We were reminded of a very sad night when I drug Mom and Dad out of the house to a late dinner at Friendly's after visiting Mike in AGMC. All Mom could think about was how bad she wished Mike was there with us. But today he was, and he ate a lot.
I had cooking class tonight. We actually cooked a buffet dinner for like 40 people. It was Akron U.'s Summit College's holiday faculty dinner. Anyways, get this, Chef Alford actually had me out in the dining room serving hot food to people's plates. I did okay, you know, I can schmooze when I have to.
But we were allowed to take whatever we wanted home, cause there was sooooo much. So I've got a bunch packed in the car to take home to the fam in Wadsworth. I just decided to write this while I was in Akron on broadband. And guys, I am so sorry I haven't taken the time to upload new photos. You would be amazed to see Mike! Well, I have to run, but we will write back soon. I think Mike is almost ready to write something. He has started using his email again and hopping online more often.
