I will make this short. Just wanted to let everyone know that Mike is recovering just fine from his surgery. His hair has grown back in. You can barely see the scars. In fact, I gave him his first haircut since the surgery last time I was home.
He is getting more energetic during the day. For the longest time, he's been having a horrible time sleeping. Some meds are helping with that, so now with more rest he is doing more. For example, doing dishes and bringing the empty garbage cans in, starting my mom's car in the morning, and getting the mail, etc. He is more awake during the day. The injury and hospital stay surely have made it difficult for him to be on a normal schedule.
After awhile, when he is for sure recovered completely from his last surgery, Mike will be able to take the driver recertification course at Edwin Shaw and drive again. That is the next milestone I see on the radar.
He's been using the treadmill to exercise his legs. They give him many problems. The right leg spasticity is very painful for him. The HO acts up when it is very cold, or he is walking briskly. He continues to improve his endurance in the muscles.
Another interesting development, his appetite has gone down. For awhile there, I thought he'd eat till he turned into Jared pre-Subway. This is a good thing cause Mike's already near his pre-accident weight. But with less exercise, appetite is something to watch.
Louie as well as Mike are getting stir-crazy I think with the crappy weather. I am excited for spring to come. It is close, I know. I am going to try to get home more from Akron and do things with Mike. He can only handle about an hour or so at a time with the sore legs, but I think it would do him some good to get out of the house. Grandma & Grandpa took them to Bob Evan's last night I guess (bummer I wasn't at home!). Mike likes food and Grandma & Grandpa, so I am sure that worked out fine! (luv ya Grandma & Grandpa as I know you'll read this!).
