Hey Buddy:
I can't wait to find out if you can remember tonight.
You nodded your head to my questions, "do you like the wheels on this car?" you nodded yes. "this car is the kind Jessie drove at Norwalk, do you remember?" you nodded yes. I told you that Jessie was a pretty girl and you smiled and even tried to giggle....but ending up coughing! I mentioned the word Dodge Viper and you smiled. I mentioned Kristens mustang and your blue mustang and how your dad started it....that brought a big smile!.
The best part for me was seeing your eyes, they often looked like the photo above with Jessie and I didn't see that blank stare near as much as in the past.....nice progress, actually incredible progress!
You weren't to sure about holding my hand, that is why I know you are coming around!
Thanks Mike, we needed to see this. I don't think I've ever felt this good in my life. Let's keep taking slow and tiny steps forward. We don't want to wear you out. But I know you will read or hear these posts someday....I want you to know the progression.
Nice Job tonight, Mike!
Uncle Gary

Mike,
I'm Jessie Harris' mom. I read Kristen's posts every day as well as the many notes from your friends and family. I just read the most recent post from your Uncle Gary and as I smile, the tears still touch my cheeks. I am so very happy that you are coming home to everyone. Uncle Gary said you liked seeing Jessie's picture with you .... he said in your eyes he sees the real Mike coming back. Keep reaching, Mike. Everyone is out there praying for you and loving you. Jessie will be coming to see you and your family soon.

Hey Mike! It's Janine again. I am SO GLAD you are smiling and getting better. It will take time, but you have the patience to do it ! Hey, I just found out our neighbor is your mom's sister! They walk their little white Shitz Tzu past the house all the time, but I had no idea she was your aunt until tonight! Apparently your whole family is great looking! Including the doggies! LOL You might be moving soon, which means you might be able to start getting cards and stuff soon! I have something I'm going to send you that means a lot to me...but I think it's time to pass this one on too. I gave Mark Hartman 2 of these little guys to help him out, and I think it will help you too. I'm sure your sister will hold it until you can get it. Keeping you in my prayers and know it will work out. You know I expect a visit when you finally get up and around!! Love and prayers to you and your family kiddo! Keep looking at all those cars! I have to share something that happened last night.
Jenn, Kristen, Diane and I were in the room with Mike. The TV was on and a World Wrestling Federation commercial came on. As is usually the case, they had scantily clad women parading around. I turned to Mike and said something to the effect “Whoa, look at all of them women running around in bikinis!”. Jenn, Kristen and Diane turned to the TV. I looked at Mike (who didn’t have his glasses on) and he was leaning forward in the bed, with his neck straining and his eyes squinting trying to focus on the TV!!! A classic moment.
I hope everyone realizes when you read what we write, that Mike is still struggling with the most basic of things. We celebrate them and will continue to celebrate each baby step.
Like Kristen has said before, it’s not like a broken arm that is healing, TBI is more complicated than that. We are just elated to have him, being so close to losing him.
Just keep things in the proper perspective.

Hey Mikey,
I saw you last night, it was pretty cool to see you throwing your legs in every direction possible, just trying to get comfortable. You sure do like playing with all of the tubes that are in/around you. Field of Dreams was on TV, we watched that for a bit, you seemed to calm down and relax a little bit while it was on. That reminded me of out little league days, haha, good times. Well, I am positive that it won't be too long from now that you'll be up walking around and ready to get outta there (I know you've been wanting to for weeks now). You've accomplished so much in the last 2 weeks and I know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. You're doing great! Keep it up!

Mike:
When you hear what has transpired from day one until the day you moved to Edwin Shaw, your jaw will drop. You've come miles.......some nights seemed like weeks....but this makes it worth it!
I'll see you soon with more photos!

Yo Mike! Hey, you already giving everyone a hard time again? That is great!! Smart man! I remember my last few "visits" to the hospital. I wanted a drink so bad and I was so mad when no one in the family would give me one. I knew it was for my own good, but I was still angry!! Of course I still get teased about it now, and I can laugh about it now too! You will later, just watch! I'm worried about my son and daughter right now too. They are having a rough time of it health wise, but they are in their 30's, older than you, but still my babies! I hope you got my card with the special angel in it, but if you didn't yet, you will. I know your family will give it to you when the time is right. I have to tell you, you have one heck of a sister. It has to be so hard on everyone and you are so lucky to have a family that cares so much about you! Nice isn't it? Well, keep on working hard and you will be out and about one of these days, wondering what the heck to do with yourself! LOL I hope you have a fun Halloween....and make sure you put up decorations.....I have a Halloween outfit for each of my doggies. I'm not sure they really like wearing the outfits, but they look so cute!! Best to you. I keep reading all the updates on ya and sending my prayers! After you are up and around again, I'll have to tell you about the Horror Movie I got a part in! How about that? Maybe by the time it comes out in theatres you can go see it and point out your Human Resource lady that hired you in the movie!! How weird is that? It's called "The Cemetery" by Catfish Productions. And they are actually going to film some of it in Seville! Wheeee! Can't wait to see ya kiddo. Keep the faith and don't watch any yucky TV! Janine Sarnowski ;D

Hi Mike-- My name is Kristy and I took care of you in SICU at Akron General. I am not a good friend of yours, but I have been in your life for three days every week for the last month and so I thought I would post a message. I spent much time with your family in the last month. They are a very good family and you are lucky. I am so proud of you. I saw you when you were at your worst and you amazed me everyday after that. You don't know how proud the whole SICU is of you. We don't get to see people get better like you did very often. Each day I would look forward to seeing you, because each day you amazed us with your progress. So we owe you a thank you for restoring our faith in what we do. It feels very weird to take care of other patients now that you are gone. I will follow your progress on Kristen's website. I hope you appreciate all of the great things she and your parents did for you. All of those light up toys and the stuffed "Panda" will be famous in the SICU for a long time. Please come back to the SICU when you are able. You will be so welcomed.

Mike:
I just read Kristy's message.
You have to come back and see her along with Heather, Doug and many other folks in SICU.
Next to Brian.....these are the folks that saved your life. Some of the highest quality people we've ever met. They made the intolerable........tolerable.
I will never forget Kristy standing at the side of your bed encouraging you to "wake up, Mike!". I'll bet you couldn't pick her out of a lineup of nurses, but the second you hear her voice you will know it's Kristy. I remember when her voice seemed the only thing that brought your ICP, heart rate, etc down....that was our only communications with you for a long time....watching your vitals and how they responded. We prayed that somehow we could communicate on a different level someday! Folks like Kristy made that happen!
This womans a gem, we all thank god for her.
on behalf of my family, Thanks Kristy (and thanks to your wonderful coworkers also!)

Mikey, Next spring we'll have to go back to the Indians game and sit in the "club" seats. What better way to gain your 40 lbs. back then to have a hot dog eating contest. "They're Free!" Wow, last time we did that I thought something crawled inside of me and died! Then we'll go to the parking deck and pour water on people while they're watching the fireworks... still cant believe you did that, it was hilarious!!!
Keep working hard bud!!! -Kurt

Mike I know you're gonna read this sometime down the road and laugh and be grateful that you were over at Edwin Shaw and not awake by your computer to hear me bitch. Why are men assholes? Come on, why, I just don't get it. Please tell me. I dunno, just the ones you talk to are. This is how the banter would've gone. Ten minutes ago, I was so miffed at this jerkface. But now, all I can do is laugh. I remember what you said when I told you what kind of car he drove. "Yeah, he's definitely an asshole. I can tell you that right now, he's a punk." Shoulda listened! And the one before that too! You were right on that one! What makes me the sickest is knowing this happened to YOU and not jerks like the ones that I seem to cross paths with. Ha Ha God, this is simply not fair. Mike, I want you to heal quick so you can come home so I can distract you from Conan with my whining. Don't you wish you had a male roommate! Mom and Dad miss you too. Plus, I just talked to a buddy from one of your poly sci classes online. He knows a bit what you are going through, and he's praying for your recovery.

Hey Mike, I'm so glad you are at Edwin Shaw now, because the leaves are starting to change & hopefully soon you will be able to go outside & enjoy the fall day's. Till then you can at least look out the windows & enjoy it(unlike at the hospital where you couldn't see any tree's). You have come so far in your progress. I cant begin to describe how happy we all are to see you coming back to us. Keep working hard & know that we all will be there with you helping you along. Maybe we can bring the real Panda up to visit you soon. I know how much you would enjoy that. Or maybe even one of our 3-legged cats. I know how weird you think they are. Take care & we will see you soon. Love Aunt Jennifer

I read your sister's daily updates on your progress and post them for the workers here at the garage. If a day goes by where I forget to post the pages, someone always comes into the office and says "where's the update on Mike." You are thought about all the time.

Hey Mike,
I just read the update and talked to your Mom about how you walked today. I am so proud of you! I am so excited that I will get to watch you "do your thing" in therapy. I can't wait. Every day you keep showing more progress than the day before. You're a tough cookie. Keep up the good work.
I love you,

Mike ---- you are doing so well! I Do believe in miracles and you are one of them. You have started to take steps.....and you write notes...... "call mom"
As a mom -- I know how precious it is when our child calls us, wants us and loves us. Even in your toughest times , you bring great joy to your family! You have such love in your heart.
I'm proud of your willingness to fight your way through this. Keep on pushing!
I feel like I know your family through all of Kristen's hard work to keep this site going and to keep you going. God is truly blessing you all.

You know what Mike?
We asked everyone to send prayers and positive thoughts your way several weeks ago. I’m convinced, after tonight, that many folks followed our request!
I am astounded, dumbfounded and ecstatic!
Tonight I was telling you how the Cleveland Indians blew it and should be in the playoffs! Then asked you about TV shows, specifically Seinfeld. You then wrote for me “Indians and Seinfeld”, with Seinfeld underlined and exclamation marks after it! Mike, there was a time that I wondered if you would ever write again! Then to see you not only write, but in small readable letters was great.
I am blown away, never in my wildest dreams!!
….and hang in there, your Mom, Dad and Kristen are lobbying heavily to have that nasty trache removed.
Your willpower is incredible.

Hi Mike,
Its Kristy from Akron General SICU again. The SICU nurses and I just wanted to say that we have been reading about all the progress you are making at Edwin Shaw and we are so proud. All the nurses here said that I had to post how happy your progress is making us and how you must come back. We need to see for ourselves that you are walking and talking. We miss you

One sign of Mike being back on the road to recovery is something that others would not notice. My sister Diane (Mike's mom) is back to herself again, for the first time since August 19th. That's a welcome sight!
I always knew Autumn was my favorite time of the year!

Hey Mike, It's Jeff....
I've been coming to see you about every two weeks and it's been an experience watching you recover the way you have. You're doin great and I don't think any of us could be happier with the way you've handled this. I wish I could still come visit more often but it's hard to work in the long distance trips all these times. I'll be coming to see you this Saturday so just hang in there and keep up the good work. Everyone in Bowling Green says hey and are following your recovery as much as I am. We all hope you can make it out here to BG to hang out with us when you are able to! See you soon!

Hi Mike, My name is Marie Veschusio. I am Jessie Harris' sister. I'm ten years old. I wanted to write to tell you that I'm really happy with all of the improvements and everything. My mom has shown me the website and been telling me everything that has been happening. Our church has been praying for you. I saw the pictures of you and Louie and I think that it's awesome that you can have him visit. We have a cat named Spike who is 17 years old just like Louie. I think Spike might be louder than Louie though. He has a kind of raggedy old voice! Animals make me feel better too when I'm sad or at night or if I'm sick. I hope you feel a lot better every day. Say hi to Kristen for me. She sounds nice just like my sister, Jessie. Your friend, Marie Veschusio

Mike,
I'm so glad to read how well you are doing. The picutures Kristen posted of she, you, and Louie really put my heart at ease. I can feel your warm smile, the one that is emblazened in my mind from that night at Norwalk.
Keep up the positive attitude and hard work.
I'm hoping to see you soon.
Sending a hug,
Jessie Harris

Wow, wow, wow!
Mike, I've just returned from visiting you and you have officially entered "miracle status" with me. I felt like I was having a conversation with someone who might have just had basic surgery. Not a person who experienced TBI.
This is incredible.......I still believe that all of your friends-relatives-family praying & sending postive thoughts/vibes helped you reach this level.
I honestly can't believe it. Never thought we would have you back like this......was prepared to accept and love the new guy that came out of Edwin Shaw, thinking I would never see the old you again.
[glow=red,2,300]We are the luckiest family in the world!.[/glow]
I have a feeling Thanksgiving 2005 is going to be awesome!
